This unique crystal is commonly referred to as "Dragon Blood Jasper" or "Dragon Blood Stone". It is a fairly recent discovery, quarried near Tshipise, South Africa. The name comes from the green matrix reminding people of the skin & scales of a dragon, while the red tends to look like pools of blood.
The particular formation of the stone is still up for debate and we have not yet seen any analysis done on it. It's believed by some that the minerals are Green Epidote and Piemontite, while others think that it's a Bastite (pseudomorph of a serpentine variety).
Until chemical analysis of this rock has been performed and published, a definitive conclusion as to the chemical composition of "dragon blood jasper" is difficult to make.
