Reflective divination is a form of prediction that involves introspection and self-reflection to gain insights or answers. It often uses mirrors, reflective surfaces, or symbolic prompts to encourage individuals to explore their subconscious thoughts, feelings, and intuitive understanding. This method emphasizes personal insight and internal reflection rather than external symbols or physical tools.
Scrying Mirrors have been found as far back as ancient Mesoamerican cultures like the Aztecs, who used polished obsidian to create "smoking mirrors" for divination and communicating with deities such as Tezcatlipoca. Then Scrying mirrors are found again embedded within ancient Egyptian and Greek history , and then Middle Ages practitioners employed black mirrors made of glass or metal, while Celtics leveraged bowls of water and polished stones for their Reflective Divination practices.
A Scrying tool (black glass, obsidian, or even a darkened bowl of water)
A quiet, dimly lit space free of distractions
Candles or soft light (avoid bright lighting—it should be low and moody)
Incense or cleansing herbs (optional, but helps set the atmosphere)
A journal for recording impressions afterward
Practice at the same time of day, preferably at night or during twilight.
Keep your mirror covered when not in use to protect its energy.
Trust your intuition—interpretations are personal and symbolic.
Don’t force results; scrying skill deepens with patience and regular practice.
Find a peaceful spot where you won’t be disturbed. Light candles on either side of your mirror or behind you so the flame doesn’t directly reflect on the surface. Burn a little incense or sage to cleanse the energy.
Take a few deep breaths. Ground your energy—feel your feet on the floor, your body relaxed. You can say a short intention, such as:
“May I see only what is for my highest good.”
Sit comfortably and look into the black surface. Don’t strain your eyes or try to see something—let your gaze soften and unfocus, as if you’re looking through the mirror rather than at it.
After a few minutes, the surface may seem to cloud or shift. You might notice lights, symbols, faces, or scenes forming in your mind’s eye. Don’t panic or overanalyze—just observe.
True scrying is about receptivity, not control. Let images, emotions, or words arise naturally. You may not “see” anything literal—sometimes insights come as feelings or thoughts instead of visuals.
When you feel complete (usually after 10–20 minutes), gently look away and ground yourself again. Thank the mirror for its guidance, then extinguish your candles. It’s a good idea to cleanse the mirror occasionally with smoke or moonlight.
Write down what you experienced immediately after your session—symbols, colors, emotions, or even physical sensations. Over time, patterns and meanings often emerge.
Blessings,
